Gillette Stadium was approved in December of 1999, work began in March of 2000, and the first event at Gillette Stadium was a game by the New England Revolution on May 11, 2002. There were also Rolling Stones tickets sold for Gillette Stadium for their Licks Tour. The first Pats game took place on September 9, 2002. Before the Monday Night Game the Patriots unveiled their Superbowl Banner for winning Super Bowl XXXVI before going on to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers [tickets] 30-14. On November of 2006, Pats ownership decided to replace the natural grass surface with FieldTurf. The first Pats game on FieldTurf win over the (at the time) 9–1 Chicago Bears.
